Since our founding in 1910, The University of Southern Mississippi has remained dedicated to preparing students for success. University provides programs to over 13,000 students in Hattiesburg and Long Beach, as well as teaching and research sites around the Mississippi Gulf Coast and online. They are a Carnegie R1 university that engages the community and is recognized as one of the nation’s finest research institutions. Southern Miss is well-known for its pioneering work in polymer science, ocean research, spectator sports safety and security, and teaching language to youngsters with communication difficulties. They are also a national leader in a variety of fields, including cybersecurity, hydrography, nutrition, aquaculture, kinesiology, and economic development, among others.
Southern Miss prepares graduates to pursue industries that are at the forefront of emerging technologies through programs such as computer engineering, information technology, and ocean engineering. They are preparing the next generation of corporate leaders while also addressing major workforce shortages by generating talented educators and nurses. They have a long history of distinction in the arts and are one of only 36 public institutions in the country that is certified in four major categories.
