Our Educational Philosophy
We believe that students learn best when they understand the Purpose for their learning and see the connection between what they are learning in the classroom and their ability to change their lives and the lives of others in a positive fashion.
The Purpose determines the focus for the Constructive Action that students are required to plan, implement, and evaluate. That Action must relate to the semesterās Purpose and improve the lives of individuals and institutions outside the classroom.
Because MCNYās curriculum fully integrates the classroom and the workplace, it allows students to work full-time and attend the school full-time. The benefits are that students:
Use their studies as the basis for taking action to improve their workplace or internship site.
Engage in an educational experience that is active, rather than passive, and far more effective
Remain in the workplace and continue to earnā¦at MCNY you donāt have to put your career on hold to attend school.
Purpose
Each semester focuses on a specific performance area called a Purpose. Achieving mastery in each is critical to a studentās ability to integrate and use the theory learned in the classroom at an internship or work site and deliver effective professional performance.
Constructive Action (CA)
This workable plan you create enables you to apply what you learn in the classroomāand address an actual challenge at your place of employment or internship. Your CA enables you to develop a body of living case studies while building the analytical, writing and communication skills necessary for success.
Dimensions of learning, action and assessment
At MCNY, youāll be asked to look at your performance from five different dimensionsāPurpose, Values and Ethics, Self and Others, Systems, and Skillsāappropriate to your program of study. Together, the Dimensions provide you with a comprehensive way of looking at organizational situations and designing solutions to the problems.
