Overview & History
Telekom Malaysia Berhad established the Institute of Telecommunication and Information Technology (ITTM) in 1994, marking Malaysia’s first privately owned higher education institution. Renamed Universiti Telekom (UNITELE) in 1996 and later Multimedia University (MMU), the institution transitioned to a significant player in the Malaysian higher education landscape, especially focusing on digital and technological education. Over the years, MMU has produced approximately 70,000 graduates and gained recognition in various global university rankings. The university aims to cultivate skilled professionals in fields like ICT, Engineering, and Creative Media, with an emphasis on entrepreneurship among graduates. The new initiative, MMU PLUS U, seeks to enhance student experiences, aiming for a significant majority of graduates to secure employment or further studies, while encouraging innovation and job creation.
