About Herzing University
Overview & History
Herzing University began its journey in 1965 as a computer training institute in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, founded by Henry and Suzanne Herzing. Initially focused on preparing students for careers in the emerging field of computer technology, the institution quickly evolved in scope and ambition. In 1970, it was renamed Herzing Institute and began expanding through strategic acquisitions of other specialized schools. One significant acquisition was the Wisconsin School of Electronics in Madison, which itself had been established in 1948. Eventually, the Milwaukee campus was phased out in favor of the Madison location, though the system headquarters remained in Milwaukee, symbolizing the university’s enduring connection to its roots.
The evolution of the institution continued steadily over the decades. In 1996, it adopted the name Herzing College, reflecting its broader academic offerings and its expanding presence across the United States. Herzing grew to establish campuses in eight different states, in addition to launching a comprehensive online division co-located with the system headquarters in Milwaukee. The expansion into graduate-level education in 2009 marked a significant milestone, prompting a final name change to Herzing University. Today, the institution stands as a career-focused university dedicated to providing flexible, practical, and high-quality education in fields such as healthcare, business, technology, and public safety.
